When the dust sets in...

We can tell that good things come to an end like the song goes 'flames to dust...lovers to friends...'
Well, another way to tell if something has prematurely ended its lifespan or well, simply under utilised is through the layer of dust that settles on top of it.

Rather obviously, the 50kg dumbbells and barbells in the gym are not touched.

(not sure if the dust can be seen... pay attention to the darker book.. it's clearer.)

similarly, as I was looking through the shelf to find some books on women and Pakistan, I happen to gloss over a corner of the shelf, aptly positioned at the bottom left corner.... One whole collection on Women and India. I can see that this is an area not widely researched in NUS. hehe

Such findings while doing research. Isn't it interesting at times what other things you discover while learning academically?
I'm so going to miss student life. :p

Anyway, about students... this conversation with my P5 tuition kid took place earlier today.

about implicit and explicit meanings.

Me: If I tell you directly to get me some food, what is the hidden message in this sentence?
Him: erm.. you want me to go somewhere?
Me: ok... how about ok ok ... when do you eat something?
Him: erm... fried rice?
Me: WHEN... not WHAT
Him: oh.... *ponders*
Me: Ok how about drinking? when do you feel like drinking water?
Him: OH!....... Just now.
Me: *peng & laughed like crazy* ok ok.. I mean... you drink water when....
Him: got water lor
Me: ARgh. ok forget it. You drink water when you are thirsty, so you eat when...
Him: My mother asks me to.
Me: ARGH. ok. explicit message is go get me some food. implicit hidden message is I AM HUNGRY. Understand?
Him: *silence*......
Me: never mind...

and this was what came out of the session
